Frasers Group has received approval to establish its new headquarters on green belt land in Warwickshire after securing a favorable vote from the council.
On Wednesday, Rugby Borough Council endorsed the retail giant’s proposal with a vote tally of seven in favor and five against.
Prior recommendations from the council’s planning officials suggested that the anticipated economic advantages of the project surpassed the detrimental effects on green belt land.
The proposal for the new headquarters had previously generated 194 letters of objection, while only one was in support of the initiative, with stakeholders expressing discontent over the conversion of designated agricultural land for different uses.
The approval allows Frasers Group to move its headquarters from Shirebrook to the newly acquired site, which the company purchased three years ago for £53.5 million.
This new development, spanning 275 acres of prime agricultural land, is set to include retail spaces, five warehouses, a 100-bed hotel, office facilities, a swimming pool, gymnasium, various sports amenities, a training academy with an auditorium, a nursery, multi-story car parks, and even a helipad.
